For I was hungry, and you fed me, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.
Ex- Offenders are released from incarceration every day. However, they become repeat offenders because they do not have the skills to transition properly back into society. According to recent statistics from ” The Louisiana Department of Corrections,” it has been estimated that while it costs $19,888 to house a state prisoner for a year, it costs $80,000 to house an ailing inmate.
Blessed to be a Blessing, Louisiana Based, non-profit organization aims to improve the well-being of the community from children to elderly through community initiative programs.
It is believed by implementing a transitional program such as “Pathway to Purpose,” recidivism can be directly reduced. Recidivism is increasing because offenders do not know how to survive in the community through civil and lawful living. “Pathway to Purpose” will prep the ex-offender for progress, train with soft skills and life skills, assist in getting a job and achieving educational goals, assist in finding a stable place to live, provide a mentor to help with substance abuse issues, addressing mental health and family issues. ” Pathway to Purpose” helps pre and post release offenders.
